About the Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route is widely considered the finest route on Kilimanjaro, combining exceptional scenery, excellent acclimatization, lower crowds, and the highest summit success rates of any path on the mountain. Starting from the remote Londorossi Gate on the western slopes, the route traverses pristine wilderness through untouched rainforest and across the vast Shira Plateau before joining the southern circuit. With 7–8 days to acclimatize properly, climbers give their bodies the time needed to adapt to altitude — leading to success rates approaching 90% with experienced guides.

Day 1

Londorossi Gate to Forest Camp

Enter pristine rainforest from the remote Londorossi Gate. A gentle introduction through lush montane forest with rich wildlife.

Forest Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Exit the forest and enter the heathland zone, ascending to the edge of the Shira Plateau. Stunning western views of the summit.

Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp (via Shira Cathedral)

Cross the vast and beautiful Shira Plateau. Optional detour to Shira Cathedral peak (3,872m) for acclimatization.

Shira 2 to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)

Classic "climb high, sleep low" day — ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Climb the spectacular Barranco Wall — an exhilarating scramble with breathtaking views. Continue to Karanga Camp.

Short ascent to high camp at Barafu. Rest and prepare mentally and physically for the summit attempt.

Midnight summit push to Uhuru Peak — the Roof of Africa. Celebrate at the summit, then descend to Mweka Camp.
